How to choose a scene name
Choosing a scene name is both fun and important! Here are some reasons why you may want to choose a scene name:
Protects your privacy (by not using your legal name)
Can be more unique and fun than your given name
Can give you an opportunity to better express your kinky self
Can be more gender affirming than your given name
Things to consider when choosing a scene name
Choosing a scene name doesn’t have to be a daunting task. Scene names can be simple! Here are some things to consider, but keep in mind that you can also totally ignore all of these and still come up with a wonderful scene name for yourself.
Hopefully it feels natural to you. The more natural it feels, the easier it will be to adopt this name
Should represent you somehow. But if not, that’s totally ok!
Should be easy to pronounce and/or easy to remember. This will help other people to use your name
Hopefully it’s also an available handle on Fetlife (or some variant of it is available). This can help others find you on Fetlife more easily. You can always pad your name with numbers, underscores, or other characters to find a variant that is available.
Does your name read as “Top”, “Bottom”, “Switch”, or “Neutral / any”? Does it give off vibes of particular kinks / dynamics? This may or may not be important to you, but it’s a consideration!
You can totally change your scene name whenever you want! It happens all the time. Some people might take some time to adjust if you’ve been using your scene name for a long time. Most experienced kinksters are used to people occasionally (or often) changing their scene names. It’s not a big deal.
Examples of scene names
The “regular name” scene name - “Kai” would be an example of this. It’s just a regular name! Reads as: “Neutral / any”
The “illustrative and spooky” scene name - “Dark Goddess Luna” would be an example of this. Reads as “Hot goth femme Dom”
The “very dommly” scene name - “Master CaneLove”. Reads as “strict disciplinarian Top who loves using canes”
The “pet” scene name - “Mx SquishyBunny”. Reads as “soft, nonbinary pet bottom”
The “funny/cute” scene name - “Puddles”. Reads as “cute”. Or maybe they are secretly a SUPER MEAN TOP. Who knows :D
Good luck and have fun!
We hope these examples and considerations have given you some ideas about choosing a potential scene name. Ultimately, it’s all up to you to choose whatever makes you feel best. Have fun out there!
